I'm here to drop some truth bombs, everybody.

The truth is, Lagos state alone has over 2 million members of cooperative societies. That's a lot of people, and it's a lot of potentials.

The truth is, there are hundreds of thousands more in Nigeria who aren't members but use cooperatives' services every day. These people can be taught the ways of cooperatives and bring their financial power to bear on our economy.

The truth is, Lagos state had already achieved an asset base of over 33 billion Naira with two million members and that's just Lagos. That's just one state in Nigeria! Imagine what we could do if we harnessed the economic power of all cooperative societies in Nigeria? In Africa?  In the world?

It's time to get this ship moving forward. It's time for you to realize your own power as a member and advocate for your local cooperative society. It's time for you to make your voice heard—not just on the international day of cooperatives, but every single day!

If you’re looking for a new way to help prepare for uncertain times, look no further than your local cooperative. The old adage “we’re in this together” is truer than ever, and we have been able to stand strong and together through solidarity and resilience—just like our cooperatives.

Cooperatives are based on values like self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. They provide members with the support they need to go back into their communities and advocate for those values. This is just another way that cooperatives nurture an along-term vision for sustainable economic growth, social development, and environmental responsibility.

Cooperative Day—a day to spread the word about how we can be better prepared to face a crisis with help of a  cooperative society.
