The governor signed the Real Estate Regulation Bill, 2018, Cooperative Societies Registration Bill, 2018, and the Lagos Pet Law, 2018 into law at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House, Alausa.
The bills are designed to regulate real estate transactions; provide for the registration of cooperative societies; and to govern the ownership, licensing and sales of pets and to prohibit and restrict people from having in custody dangerous animals in public places respectively.
In his remarks at the occasion, Governor Sanwo-Olu stated that the new bills would “strengthen government and citizens’ engagement and relationships and for residents of the State to continue to live in an atmosphere where rule of law is enshrined for people and to know what is expected of them”.
He commended the Lagos State House of Assembly for passing the bills, citing that the state government will continue to ensure that citizens are happy as trust is further deepened in government.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said that the new law to provide for the registration of cooperative societies in the state would make it easy to regulate the operations of thousands of cooperative societies in the state.
This, he said would help to ensure harmonious cooperation among them; the law would enable cooperative societies to work together with other stakeholders in a democratic manner while maintaining the interest of members at all times.
